The Master Cleanse

A new year, a new me.  I have decided to attempt the Master Cleanse for the third time.  If you are not familiar with the Master cleanse let me fill you in.  No solid food for a minimum of 10 days (some people have known to go for 30 days).

The last time I did this was back in 2008 so I feel like this is long overdue. A lot of people do the cleanse to lose weight I am doing this to cleanse my mind, body, and soul.  I am finally somewhat on track with no distractions.  After moving, being unemployed, running low on funds, and going through an emotional rollercoaster, I NEED THIS.

The cleanse consists of drinking a home-made Lemonade, salt water, and a Laxative Tea.  You make the lemonade yourself with freshly squeezed organic lemons, cayenne pepper (the spice will help to curb food cravings), and Organic Grade B Maple Syrup.  You can also drink peppermint tea and as much water as you can hold down :)

I am going for 14 days (the last two times I only did 10 days).  Today is day two of my cleanse and so far I am doing okay.  When I woke up this morning I was craving a fruit smoothie, veggie pizza, and a fruit salad. All I need to remember is temptation is easy but will power shows strength.  Stay tuned and wish me luck!

Day One

MISSHAPES

I have wanted this book for about 5 years and I finally own a copy.  Found at a used book store on Vanderbilt Ave. (in brooklyn) I purchased it for only $8!

From 2002-2007 (the birth of the HIPSTER movement) this book documents the overall lifestyle and culture of this now closed party, Misshapes.  It’s basically the Studio 54 of the 21st century.

On the weekly you could rub shoulders with celebs like Madonna, Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy), and even Hillary Duff (oh my, LOL).

Here are some cuties…

A place I’ve always wanted to experience but never got the chance.  The memory lives on through this book and the creatures of the night that made it happen.

Legal Street Art

“Willoughby Windows transforming 12 vacant storefronts into a street level gallery that brings art to the community.”

By accident one day I discovered this amazing display of visuals.  As I walked in front of each storefront I instantly felt a sense of peace and happiness.  I can honestly say this time Pictures do not do it justice.  I am so fortunate to live in such a beautiful city.  Brooklyn you are simply the SHIT.

Here are some of my favorite windows…

Hellbent’s attention to detail, even down to the floor foliage amazed me.

My Makeup work is Nationwide

After months of waiting it’s finally here! Back in May I did a shoot w/ photographer Harold Julian and Actress Kat Graham.  The makeup looks AMAZING.  Kat had a beautiful canvas to work with and an amazing spirit.  I am so happy with the turnout and grateful for the opportunity to make this happen.  This issue of Disfunkshion can be purchased at Barnes & Noble nationwide :)

Moon Hooch

Every Friday and Saturday night you can find 14th St. Union Square bumpin.  Street performers set up stage throughout the underground ready to entertain.

At the L Train stop I discovered this group MOON HOOCH.  No singing, just the pure sound of instruments.  These guys have mad talent and are definitely gonna go far.  I’ve become a fan and I hope you will too :)

It’s Winter Time

I am loving every minute of this Winter weather even tho I am sick.  Due to the cold weather I am finally able to wear coats.

I am obsessed with the hood on this one <3

Bubba said this one is my Pocahontas Coat.  I love the chocolate brown color and fringe on this one.

Two great films of 2011

I am the type of person who loves to watch movies.  Surprisingly, I’ve actually met a handful of people who dislike movies recently (weirdos).  This week I recommend two great films Hanna and Sleeping Beauty.

Hanna (2011)

Action, fighting, and a dope musical score = one of the best visually stimulating films I’ve seen this year.  The film stars Eric Bana, Cate Blanchett, and  up and coming actress Saoirse Rona.  I was on an unexpected ride with twists and turns that I did not expect, two thumbs up.

I always feel that the score makes or breaks a film.  While watching this all I could think was, “Wow!  The music is so epic.”  I came to find out The Chemical Brothers wrote the entire score.  How dope is that?! My favorite track from the movie is “Container Park.” This song really shows their house music roots with a nice blend of Drum n’ Bass.  I almost forgot, watch this one HIGH.

Sleeping Beauty (2011 Fiml)

This is not a remake of the Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, let’s get that cleared up.  Silly me thought it was. LOL.

All I can say is be prepared to feel disturbed and depressed after watching this movie.  I would recommend not watching this movie high because it will just send your mind into a dark weird place.  I found myself intrigued by characters and still wanting to know more.  Emily Browning is amazing and really brings her character to life.  A must watch, just do not expect to feel happy after watching it.

Dorothy eat your fucking <3 out!

Starting about three years ago I developed a shoe obsession.  So, this week I had to share the most ridiculous pair of shoes I own…

These beauties are by Kimchi Blue (purchased @ Urban Outfitters) and I feel like a Disco Diva every time I wear them.

I must give a shout out to my amazing friend Amy Luu for these beautiful socks (Kate Spade).  This is my first pair of knee high socks and I am in love, thank you Amy :)

Glitter really does make the world go round.

A Moment of Nature Shared

After a long day I decided to unwind and smoke with a friend.  On the train ride home (and HIGH) I sit next to a man reading National Geographic.  I remember my dad subscribing to that magazine when I was little (because at the time I wanted to become a Scientist), but I have yet to read an issue since.  As soon as he flips it open I cannot stop but stare. This was the image…

All I can say is that this image is BREATHTAKING.  I leaned over to the man and said,

“That is so beautiful.”

We both looked at each other in amazement and could not believe that something like this exists on this Earth.  Living in a city it is always easy to forget about the beautiful world we live in.  For a second we were both like what are we doing in NYC?  This photograph was taken by Richard Mosse in the South Kivu Provence of the Congo.

If you have ever been high and in nature it is an amazing experience.  You appreciate everything. Blades of grass, the warm earth beneath your feet, and the coolness of the wind grazing your face; it is magical.  I was very thankful to see this.  It reminded me that the EARTH is special and we should take care of her.

As the train headed to my stop I said goodbye to the National Geographic man and wished him Happy Holidays.  It’s those little things that keep me thankful for LIFE, and only in NYC would a moment like this ever be shared. <3
