Legal Street Art

“Willoughby Windows transforming 12 vacant storefronts into a street level gallery that brings art to the community.”

By accident one day I discovered this amazing display of visuals.  As I walked in front of each storefront I instantly felt a sense of peace and happiness.  I can honestly say this time Pictures do not do it justice.  I am so fortunate to live in such a beautiful city.  Brooklyn you are simply the SHIT.

Here are some of my favorite windows…

Hellbent’s attention to detail, even down to the floor foliage amazed me.

i’m the dude, man.

Fremont outdoor theater

Featured movie: cult classic….The Big Lebowski

Food Trucks flanking both sides of the parking lot turned make-shift theater seating with lawn chairs, blankets and beach towels. White Russians on special, unknown garage band for opening act (c’mon it wouldn’t be Seattle if they didn’t have that!), costume contest for best “dude”, Classic, classic movie.

It’s been a while, but I think I ordered the “Sasquatch” from Big Food Mobile. Spicy pulled pork shoulder with green mango chutney and slaw on a grilled flat bread. Deeeelish.

High and the City.

Holy shit! I fucken live in New York City (it just hit me the other day).  The past couple of months have been a complete blur, just constant movement.  So, I decided to get high and explore the city.

On my adventure day I found hands down the cutest vintage shop in the Chelsea area of Manhattan (my favorite!)  It’s called Pippin Vintage Jewelry, located on 17th st. right off of 7th avenue.  They have a numerous selection of Vintage jewelry, hats, and accessories all dating back from the 1930′s and up.

The coolest part was the second part of the store.  It’s located right next to it down a hall or mirrors.  It feels like you are stepping back into time; the music, ambiance, and smell (the good kine vintage smell) takes you into a time warp.

It’s my tradition that every year I get CRANBERRY from the Body Shop.  So, off I walked to the Broadway location.  A limited item they only sell during the Holidays.  Luckily I scored!  Buy 3 get 3 free (a door prize).  So, I stocked up and got 9 Home fragrance oils.  I also bought a cute oil burner to go along with it.  If you have not smelled this lemme just tell you, it’s unreal. It makes you feel like Christmas 24/7.

A big thank you to Starbucks Flatiron for satisfying my caffiene need.  Here’s the perfect Holiday drink recommendation:

Grande

Peppermint

1/2 Non Fat/ Soy

No Whip

w/ Dark Chocolate curls

White Mocha

It was an orgasm in a cup, nuff said.  The perfecting ending to my day.

One Love Manhattan.

Never trust your own eyes, believe what you are told

out on one of my many adventures to snap Seattle, I came across an otherwise unassuming storefront. Turn the corner and BAM…Obey demands your attention. I love that with closer inspection this piece reads like sheets of wallpaper that have been peeled back, revealing layer upon layer.

Halloween, my fav Holiday

Okay, so Halloween isn’t exactly a real Holiday. For our first Halloween in NYC we decided to watch the parade.  It’s a massive event in which they close off the entire 6th avenue (basically trying to get anywhere in Manhattan is a pain).  What makes NYC the best place for Halloween is the fact EVERYONE dresses up (well, mostly everyone).  If you ever plan to see the parade go early (like 6ish) so you don’t miss it.  Even tho it was a Monday night it was still packed and crazy.  The city is full of parties and events during this time so you are sure to find something to do afterwards :)

We decided to go as SugarSkulls or Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).  Yes I know not the most original, but it was fun.  The highlight of my night, a woman came by and said:

“You look scary but oh so beautiful.”

That’s exactly what I was going for.  Lemme just say trying to paint your own face is truly a PAIN IN THE ASS.  The end result is so worth it tho.

The next best part of Halloween was walking around in the daytime like this…

Not a lot of people in Manhattan during the daytime were feeling the LOVE.  So, this look definitely turned heads.  It looked even funnier when I was eating, muhahaha.

The looks you get are priceless and the things you see memorable.  But only in NYC and on Halloween can all of this happen. Until next year…

inspire my true heart’s desire

Dinner with one of my favorite people ever; my bestie and well, pretty much my sister. Entertaining my on going Seattle mission to “capture my beloved city”, we embarked upon Capitol Hill and ended up at Quinn’s. I absolutely love the natural materials used within the space, especially the warmth they cast against the perfect 85 degree Seattle summer sunset. The windows and decorative pendants make my heart melt. Ugh…love!

Seared painted hills steak, potatoes, mushrooms, onions, mizuna

Oxtail, gnocchi, roasted corn, fontina, crispy marrow. TO DIE FOR. Seriously, the best oxtail and gnocchi I’ve ever had!

A few snap shots from around the area.

Love the mix of old and new. Double love the fire escape staircases found pretty much everywhere across Seattle.

Dead-muthaf*cknMAU5

After two years we finally got to see DEADMAU5 live!  Deadmau5 is an EDM (electronic dance music) artist but many people think he is a DJ, and that’s so far from the truth.  He actually writes and produces all of his music, making him an ARTIST (don’t get it twisted).  We got tickets for the October 6 show @ the Roseland Ballroom.  He would go on to play a record breaking 6 concerts which all SOLD OUT.  No other EDM artist has ever done this before, making him one of the GREATS.

Roseland Ballroom & DEADMAU5

There were three opening acts, Sleepy & Boo/ Feed Me/ and Excision.  These three artists are mainly Dubstep (which equals getting fucked through the ears and having it cum in your brain).

Got my MAU5 ears

And then FINALLY! The show began.  Lights everywhere, crowd cheering, and the bass pumpin through our chests.  People lighting up blunts left and right, popping X, teenagers losing their shit.  All the makings of a wonderful show.  It was like running around a giant dancing playground.

At the end it was so worth it. Danced our asses off, went deaf, and fell in love all over again.  We came all the way from Hawaii to NYC to see him. If that ain’t love, idk what is <3 <3

This night was EPIC.

Art Whores

Screw Utrecht & Pearl with your overpriced everything! Bubba and I prefer this new place. Artist & Craftsman Supply located in Brooklyn, a block away from the Graham Ave. stop on the L Train. I do believe this is one of the best Art Supply stores in NY. As soon as we walked in it felt like home. It’s a cute store with a great selection.

From the outside of the store you wouldn’t think it can hold much, but do not let looks deceive you. Upon entering you are immersed in a wide variety and selection of paints and they also carry many brands. Look out for the sales they have on some paints, they can range from 20-40% off.  They are well stocked on textures, matte medium, and any other type of enhancers for paint.

I was glad to see they had a great selection/ variety of brushes. They were also stocked very well. I’ve been to many supply stores where there are brushes missing and do not get re-filled for months! No worries about that here.

What really impressed me was the Canvas selections. They have a whole room dedicated to it. This is the first store that I have been to that had wood & linen canvases. Great selection of sizes and shapes. Some of them were a little pricey but worth the quality.

As far as craft supplies, they got it all. Glue guns, earring backs, feathers, felt, pipe cleaners. This place just keeps uping its coolness points.

Brushes Galore

A magical room.

And did I mention this place has a second floor as well? The top area is reserved for rolls of paper, sketchbooks, drawing pads, and screen printing supplies.

What to choose... Hmmm.

ACS blew my mind. Great location, decent prices, and a very friendly staff. Definitely worth a trip to Brooklyn. We’ll be back 4 sho.

MoMAing

Apparently Fridays @ the MoMa in NYC is the busiest day of the week.  Good to know now.  It is also free every Friday from 4pm-8pm.  Luckily we had a friend and borrowed his member card. Best advice if you have never been there before, start at the top and work your way down.

Even down to the architecture this place does good.
You can shit in the MoMa now.  You can even have security check up on you too! LOL!
We need this Cloud Shelf.
More light action.

By far one of our favorite museums to go to in NyC, never disappoints.  If you ever get a chance to visit, GO!
